Develop by MIT’s mechanical engineer Amos Winter, the Leveraged Freedom Chair is an inexpensive and rather elusive concept for the developing nations where a very large population of individuals with the need for wheelchairs have to look in for homemade alternatives. Done specifically for this bit of the world population, the LFC is built in cheap and readily available bicycle parts which can very ably be duped and custom built by anyone willing.

Conventional wheelchairs and hand driven tricycles from the developing world have the LFC as a solution, given its chain driven engineering and detachable levers, which make Winter’s wheelchair good to travel faster in open pavements and also steer off road through sandy, muddy and sluggish pathways, with ability like never before.
